Only in the case of very few musicians does one become aware of a music that draws on the essence of life itself, the mountains and the seas and the people who moulded this world before us. Cormac Ó Beaglaoich is one such musician. He has a natural and unique understanding of the rhythms of Irish music. In this way he immerses us into the heart and soul of the music of his native Kerry and well beyond. There is emotion and excitement in this music tempered through Cormac’s own heart and soul which gives a new freedom to concertina playing.

– Mary Mac Namara

The name ‘Begley’ is synonymous with An Ghaeltacht, Corca Dhuibhne and West-Kerry and with the songs, slides, and polka tradition of that area. Cormac Begley, is an entirely committed and dedicated musician! And a brave one! On this recording you will experience the full spectrum of his musical journey. It began with nature and nurture but has culminated here in a statement from a man musically possessed.

He has created a new, energetic and exciting style of music on the concertina. He injects his body and heart into his music in a way that enables us to experience it at a very deep level. This is the music of passion and optimism, a music that reverberates with the soul of an ancient place, with its geography, its history and its emotion; a treat for the listener who might pass this way……. mar is é seo ‘Beauty Deas an Oileáin’.
