Mala grew up in a musical home, with daily playing and singing by her parents. She started her classical violin education at the age of 9, and trained her voice in regular singing lessons. Inspired by her mother’s record collection, she fell in love with American and Irish folk music. At festivals, she participated in jams and sessions to learn about fiddle playing.
This spring, Mala spent three months in Austin Texas USA. The folk music community over there inspired her to refine her songwriting skills and to grow in her musical career.
Along with her two bandmates, Stefan & Vincent, she will be circling the green island this fall, for the third time. The band’s folk music style is inspired from both sides of the Atlantic, by US bands like Alison Krauss & Union Station or the Irish group Lúnasa. Their songs tell stories about snow-covered mountain peaks, traveling the world, matters of the heart and lonely cowboys…
Writing new songs and taking them to other countries are two of their passions. Several shows are coming up with all original songs and instrumentals, brought to you right from the Swiss mountains. They just performed as a finalist in the European band contest in La Roche-sur-Foron, at the largest Bluegrass festival in Europe.
Their last album “On The Run” is a bucket full of fresh music with vocals and tight harmonies that will light a “Fyr” in your heart. No commercial music, no big show, but unique to the core – don’t miss out!
John Davidson, Shane Booth & Ros O’Meara bring together dynamic and contrasting instrumentation and vocal arrangements. Their debut album, “The Winter Tapes”, was released in 2012 as a duo. Since then, with the addition of 3rd member, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Ros O’Meara, Cua have been back recording and releasing new material – an expansive acoustic soundtrack blending guitars, fiddle, bouzouki, percussion, 3 part harmony arrangements to create a neoclassical folk styling they call Atlantean. Their self-titled EP was released at the beginning of October at the Store Yard in Portlaoise. The Store Yard specialises in period and antique furniture which made it a unique place to play.
The trio have managed to fit in some excellent live shows from arts theatres to festivals in the last 18 months whilst also recording their ep. With upcoming tours of Holland and France in the pipeline, Cua are looking forward to taking their music on the road. Cua have steadily built a reputation and following for their engaging, passionate and highly original performances.
