The Night Before Larry Got Stretched – Eugene McEldowney

No joke! The Night Before Larry Got Stretched returns to The Cobblestone this Sunday, April 1st.

Looking forward to hearing lots of songs from our special guest, Eugene McEldowney.

Eugene McEldowney began his singing career at the age of eight when he was shanghaied into the local church choir. In his early twenties while a student at Queens University, he became deeply involved in the folk music revival forming a band called The Winnowers with Fergus Woods, Ray Maguire, Tom Hickland and Brian Fagan.

The Winnowers had a successful career playing local venues and support for important bands including The Dubliners. During this period, Eugene made several recordings for the local Outlet label including the best-selling album James Connolly, the Irish Rebel.
In 1972, Eugene moved to Dublin to take up a journalistic career with The Irish Times. He continued to sing around venues in Dublin and Howth where he lives. He is still heavily involved with folk singing and recently was a guest at The Frank Harte Festival. He is a regular attendee at An Góilín Singing Club, The Clé Club and his local singing circles in Howth and Malahide.
