Join us for a night of music in solidarity #WithCatalonia #LeisAngCatalóin!
People in Ireland have been standing in solidarity with the Catalan people’s right to self-determination, to democracy and freedom from repression. Over the last number of months the #WithCataloniaIreland Platform has organised protests, street stalls, awareness/lobbying campaigns, participated in public debates. Some of our activists have been to Catalonia as observers. This fundraiser will help the #WithCataloniaIreland Platform to raise funds for further campaigning in Ireland.
We will have musicians from Catalonia, Ireland, the Basque Country, Italy, and elsewhere on what should be a great night of music and cultural solidarity!
Against the backdrop of campaigning for the December 21st elections getting underway in Catalonia, news has reached us that the European arrest warrant for Puigedemont, the exiled ex-President of the Catalan Parliament and four ex-ministers has been withdrawn. However, bail continues to be denied for other parliamentarians and civil society leaders who still languish in jail and most likely will spend the Christmas holidays behind bars. Polls show that support for the pro-independence parties is neck and neck with unity parties – the region very much divided on the issue. The main question is, how will the Spanish state react if the pro-independence Catalan majority is returned? How will the Catalan people react to a victory for the unity parties? All will be revealed after December 21st! Either way the Spanish State must respect the outcome of the elections and respect the Catalan people’s democratic rights. Solidarity from Ireland!
